Omkar Prasad Nayyar (known as OP Nayyar, born January 16, 1926 in Lahore - January 28, 2007 in Thane, Maharashtra) was an Indian film music composer, mainly for the Hindi film.

OP Nayyar began his career as a film music writer in 1949 for the film Kaneez. His first great success was Aar Paar (1954) of Guru Dutt, with whom he then worked several times, including for Mr. & Mrs. '55 and CID He frequently wrote songs for Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi, their careers he pushes it forward. It is also noteworthy that he never worked with Lata Mangeshkar, the most successful Indian playback singer.

Nayyar's specialty was rhythmic pieces. 50 years after its creation, the song of yeh desh hai veer jawanon from BR Chopra's film Naya Daur (1957) with Dilip Kumar and Ajit is one of the best patriotic song in India. For his music for this film, he received in 1957 a Filmfare Award.

After separating from Mohammed Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor became his favorite singer. 1974 also ended his collaboration with Asha Bhosle and Nayyar's career suffered, he produced despite a comeback attempt in the 90s after that no more important film scores.

Nayyar's reputation was stubborn and individualistic. He died of a heart attack. With his family, wife and 4 children, he was in conflict and lived apart from them, they were not present at his funeral.
