Bombay Blast (1993)

On March 12, 1993, in the serial blasts in Mumbai, 257 people were killed and 713 were injured. A bomb explosion in the 28-story building of the Bombay Stock Exchange struck at 1.30 pm, in which about 50 people were killed. About half an hour after a car exploded and a total of 13 explosions had occurred in less than two hours. About 27 crores worth of property was damaged.

On November 4, 1993, 10,000 pages of primitive chargsheets were filed against 189 people.

On November 19, 1993, the case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The trial of this case began on 19th April 1995 in the TADA court of Mumbai. In the next two months the charges against the accused were decided.

In October 2000, the statements of all prosecution witnesses were ended.

In October 2001, the prosecuting party concluded its plea.

in September 2003, the hearing of the case ended.

In September 2006, the court started giving its verdict.

There are 123 accused in this case, 12 of which were sentenced to death by the lower court. In this case 20 people were sentenced to life imprisonment, two of whom have been died and their heirs are fighting this case. Apart from these, 68 people were sentenced differently, while 23 were treated as innocent.

In November 2006, Sanjay Dutt was found guilty of possessing pistols and AK-56 rifles. But he was acquitted in many other bayonetic matters.

The trial began in the Supreme Court on November 1, 2011, which lasted ten months.

In August 2012, the Supreme Court reserved its decision.

Dawood Ibrahim, the main accused of these blasts, could not be arrested. The police have been saying that the blast was carried out by Dawood Ibrahim.

In the year 2006, the court of Mumbai, while giving its verdict, was guilty of those blasts, there were also four members of the same family.

Their names were Yakub Memon, Yusuf Memon, Isa Memon and Rubina Memon. All these were found guilty for promoting conspiracy and terrorism.

All of these were Tiger Memon's relatives who were not caught. Sanjay Dutt was arrested and spent 18 months in prison.

About Tiger Memon, it is believed that he used to run a restaurant in Mumbai and was close to Dawood.

The motive behind these blasts was that it was done to take revenge for the death of those Muslims who were killed in the riots in the last few months.
