In the 80's, the Indian Information and Broadcasting Ministry invited many independent producers and directors to make television serials. Malgudi Days, based on the work of RK Narayan, was one of those serials which became very popular and had a profound effect on children of this era. The serials included short stories and novels such as Swamy and Friends and Vendor of Sweets. This serial was made in Hindi and English.

Malgudi Days, created in 1987 by T. S. Narasimhan of Padmarag Films, was directed by the late Kannada actor and director Shankar Nag. This serial was filmed in Agumbe village, located in Shimoga district of Karnataka. Music director of the serial was a well known violin player L. Vaidyanathan.

The "vendor of suites" was the story of a sweet seller Jagan, in which the story of his attempt to make his track with his son returned from abroad was described. When used in the role of Jagan, Shankar's brother and Kannada and Hindi films Veteran actor Anant Nag. A total of 39 episodes of Malgudi Days broadcast on Doordarshan. This serial was also reprinted as Malgudi Days Returns.
